Garland Systems
The introduction of bigger excavators and the resulting large lumps of material caused,
in earlier years, increased breakdowns of conveyors and rigid idler station. The reasons
for the breakdown were: bulky material, spillage, damage to belts (at impact points). A
reduction of the belt speed would have improved the situation, but would also have forced
a reduction in capacity. The search for an optimal solution brought about steeper
troughing angles and pushed development of the flexible roller base known today
internationally under the name of the Garland system.
